Photobiomodulation in the supportive care pathway

Since April, Clinique Pasteur has been offering photobiomodulation as part of its chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment pathway.

Photobiomodulation

Photobiomodulation (PBM) or low-energy LED therapy is a non-invasive, painless treatment method based on light.

It promotes healing, reduces inflammation and relieves pain.

What are its applications in cancerology?

PBM is mainly used in cancerology for the prevention and treatment of mucositis, an indication for which it is internationally recognised.

Numerous scientific publications have demonstrated its value in other cancer-related indications, particularly neuropathic pain.

How long does it take to get results?

MBP is prescribed by a doctor and carried out in the day hospital under the responsibility of an oncologist.

Results can be expected quickly, sometimes immediately after the session. For these effects to be long-lasting, 9 to 18 sessions are recommended, on a weekly or multi-weekly basis for certain acute symptoms. After that, maintenance sessions may need to be scheduled periodically.

What are the advantages of this approach?

Photobiomodulation acts on the mechanism that causes pain. It is non-invasive, painless and has no side effects.

It can greatly improve the quality of life of patients suffering from the side effects or after-effects of their chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments, and even cure them of certain symptoms. It also makes it possible to reduce the number of drug treatments that are sometimes poorly tolerated, which is far from negligible.

Talk to your doctor, who will be able to refer you to an oncologist at Clinique Pasteur's day hospital.
